Datsun had earlier announced that they will be launching three models for the Russian market. After the on-DO sedan, which has still not gone on sale in the country, the carmaker has started testing the second car - mi-DO.
The Datsun mi-DO is a hatchback based on the Lada Kalina. The pictures of the camouflaged hatchback do not reveal much but, from the pictures we can gauge that the headlamps have been changed to accommodate the hexagonal Datsun grille. Apart from this visible change, the tail lamps, bumpers, alloy wheels and boot lid also seem to be revamped. Nevertheless, the manufacturer is expected to retain the basic design like the base model of the Kalina. The car in the disguised avatar is likely to get the Kalina’s blackened B and C pillars.
The mi-DO is expected to be powered by the same engine the on-DO is equipped with. This means the mi-DO will get the 1.6-litre petrol engine that produces 87bhp of power.
Designed and engineered predominantly for Russia, we do not expect either the on-DO or the mi-DO to be launched in the Indian market anytime soon. Nonetheless, the cars look promising with their uniform design and we would not be surprised if Datsun thinks of bringing these vehicles to our country. Currently, the Datsun GO, its first offering for the Indian market, is garnering a lot of praise and attention here.
