With the introduction of its new hatchback – the GO, South Africa has become the fourth market where the Datsun brand has being re-launched, 33 years after the company shut shop globally in 1986. Besides South Africa, Datsun currently enjoys presence in India, Indonesia and Russia.
Datsun has officially announced that it is finalising the initial phase of its return to the global market. The brand reportedly was a noteworthy name in South Africa up to the 1980s, where it was the number one selling brand in 1976-1978.
Like in the other three markets, the Datsun GO hatchback will be seen spearheading the company’s operations in South Africa. The vehicle, as we know, will be made in India and exported to South Africa. Datsun has revealed that the GO will go on sale towards the end of the year via a network of 30 full fledged dealerships.
Datsun is looking to introduce the GO with a price tag of below R 100,000 (around Rs 5.50 lakh), making it a real value proposition for first time new car buyers.
