Nissan's most affordable car for the Indian market, the Datsun Go is set to get an update come 2017. These updates, say company officials, are in line with customer expectations. Now, Nissan had recently launched a new version of the car called the Go NXT with slightly more styling flair and some add-ons. The facelift is expected to take the same direction. And we can see why.
The Datsun Go hasn't been a great seller since its launch almost two years ago. The car, though well priced and spacious for its class, is perceived as 'cheap' and 'under equipped'. Additionally, the Go might have the biggest engine in its class but apart from performance and space, it doesn't really have other USPs to draw first-time car buyers away from the current champion in the class, the Maruti Suzuki Alto.
Also, since Nissan is set to launch the Datsun Redi-Go hatchback to sit below the Go in terms of pricing, it must give the latter enough padding to justify the premium. More so, considering the Redi-Go will sit on the newer CMF-A modular platform (like the Renault Kwid) and will clearly be better styled; the Redi-Go is expected to be pretty close to its concept shown at the previous Auto Expo. The Redi-Go however, is expected to be lower on space, especially rear knee and shoulder room compared to the Go.
