Next year's Paris-Dakar Rally will involve neither of the places that lend it its name. It will not even be held on the same continents – for next year, it will start in Buenos Aires on Jan 2 and end in the same city on the 18th. Officials have said that the rally will run through Argentina and Chile. We think that it'd make for an interesting route should they include Chile, as the Atacama Desert is there. The Atacama is the driest place on earth, so dry that mummies of South American natives over 9000 years old have been found in it, mummified simply due to lack of moisture. Throw in an Andes hillclimb and a few stages through the Amazon and we'll have a truly epic motorsport event on our hands.
That's merely wishful thinking, however. 'Buenos Aires Rally,' anyone?
