Continental, a leading component manufacturer that is best known for its tyres has re-affirmed its commitment to the Indian market. During an interactive session with the media the company announced that it will expand its Manesar facility from 7152sqft to 15027sqft. It has attributed the move to expected growth within the next few years. Continental currently produces instrument clusters and various sensors at the plant.
As a part of its expansion plans, Continental plans to establish new facilities, hire more qualified personnel from Asia and India as well. In this regard the component major has been promoting the ‘local for local concept’ where it has been localising its entire value chain in both the business and production ends.
This basically means that as the cost of producing components comes down (without the loss of quality) Continental will be able to offer its products and solutions to wide range of manufacturers at a much lower cost.
How this helps you, the consumer, is directly through purchase price: newer and more reliable technology both in areas of the driveline (meaning lower fuel consumption and emissions) and safety (which will hopefully help take India off the #1 post of annual road fatalities) will ultimately be made available for reasonable prices.
