Configuring the India-bound Porsche 911 GT3

Porsche might have broken the ‘Ring record with its most powerful 911, the GT2 RS. Unfortunately, all of the GT2 RS' 1000 units have been sold out. However, you can grab yourself the next best thing in the 911 line-up – the GT3. Porsche India will officially debut the 991 911 GT3 in India on 9 October. But ahead of its Indian debut, we tried our hands on the Porsche’s famous configurator. Here are the few accessories you can opt for in the 911 GT3 at some outrageous prices. 

Special Colour

Let’s start with the exterior paint. At the base price, you get four standard colours – black, white, red and yellow. Or you can pick any of the seven metallic paints at no extra cost. However, Porsche will offer you four “special paints” – Carmine Red, Crayon, Lava Orange, and Miami Blue – for a jaw-dropping Rs 6.54 lakhs. For the price of the special paint on the GT3, you can get yourself a top-spec Maruti Suzuki Swift ZXi.

Lightweight Bucket seats

Porsche gives a four-way electric Sports seats Plus as standard. But for an extra Rs 4.49 lakhs, you can opt for an 18-way Adaptive Sports seats Plus. But Rs 6.97 lakhs will get you a sports bucket seat with integrated thorax airbag and manual fore/aft adjustment. Or you can go full bonkers and configure the hardcore ‘full bucket seats’ which retail at Rs 8.61 lakhs. And for this price, which is equivalent to the marked price of a Force Gurkha Explorer, the bucket seats package won’t  even let you have ISO child seats (Rs 32,600) or a seat heater (Rs 86,200). However, these options are available in the cheaper variant. Strange much?

Individual Exterior 

You can have the GT3’s headlamps finished in dark chrome black metallic with the internals done in the same colour. This, along with Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS+) units will cost you Rs 3.54 lakhs. The headlight cleaner’s covers painted in deviating exterior colour costs a ridiculous Rs 37,000. The reversing camera is additional Rs 1.19 lakhs. Body coloured side skirts will set you back Rs 1.13 lakhs.

Individual Interior

Moving on to the interiors, there are a plethora of things you can put your money on. First up, a ludicrous Rs 43,000 just for a red trim atop the steering wheel. You can have the instrument binnacle in your favourite colour as long as they are red or white for Rs 1.07 lakhs. If you extended leather treatment for the dashboard its Rs 2.3 lakhs, and for Rs 1.29 lakhs you get carbonfibre treatment as well. 

But to personalise your GT3 with your very own logo, illuminated in white, it will be just Rs 2.07 lakhs. A 555Watts Bose sound system with 12 loudspeakers and noise cancellation is optional with Rs 2.59 lakhs because Porsche does not provide music system for the GT3.

Factory collection

After you have configured your 911 GT3, Porsche also has a special factory collection scheme. At Rs 1.81 lakhs, Porsche will take you to the Zuffenhausen or Leipzig factory in Stuttgart, show you around the production process with a guided tour of the Porsche Museum. You can even drive an identical model under expert supervision there. For Rs 2.36 lakhs, you can include a dynamic driving instruction session on a FIA-certified racetrack.

So after hours of configuring our favourite GT3, we couldn’t spend more than Rs 75 lakhs on the optional extras. Which when added to the base price of Rs 2.2 crore, the GT3 still didn’t exceed the Rs 3 crore mark. And when you can afford a German sports car of Rs 2.2 crore, the Rs 75 lakhs seems like a real value for money.
