Citroen hints at two premium SUVs for India in 2022
-Mid-size SUVs in the C-segment and D-segment
-Petrol and diesel options
-C3 Aircross will be rival to Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster
-C5 Aircross will be rival to Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and MG Hector
Citroen has hinted that it will bring two premium SUVs to India when it begins operations in 2022. We believe that these will be the will be the C3 Aircross and the C5 Aircross. Of these, we have already spotted the latter testing on Indian soil. Â
C5 Aircross
Being the elder sibling of the C3 Aircross, the C5 Aircross shares much of its design with the smaller car. However, at 4.5-meters it is significantly longer than the C3 Aircross and thus looks far more proportionate. The interiors are similar to that of the C3 Aircross and for both cars, the Citroen is expected to offer high levels of customisation both on the inside and outside.Â
In Europe, the car is offered with a 1.2-litre petrol, 1.6-litre as well a 1.5-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre diesel. All engines make use of a six-speed manual, but by the time the cars come to India, there will also be the option of an eight-speed AT. The C5 will take on the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and the MG Hector
C3 Aircross
The C3 Aircross is a compact SUV, based on the C3 hatchback. The styling is a standout for this compact SUV and noticeable elements include the grille, wheel design and a large number of curves and prominent lines that come to fore when viewing the car in profile.
It’s a similar story on the inside too, with features like a massive touchscreen system, climate control, multiple airbags and sufficient space for five inside. However, the stand out element is the way everything has been designed with rectangle being the most prominent shape and present all over. The C3 Aircross is offered with a 1.2-litre 129bhp petrol and 118bhp 1.6-litre diesel. Both these engines power the front wheels via either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. The C3 will take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster and Kia SP2i
Globally these models are B-segment and C-segment SUVs and make the most sense for India as both the market points, where they will enter, will become volumes-heavy within the next few years.
