The China-spec Hyundai ix25 has been officially revealed and will be launched in the People’s Republic on October 9. It is expected to be priced in the range of 140,000 Yuan (Rs 13.87 lakh) to 170,000 Yuan (Rs 16.84 lakh) and will be offered with a single petrol engine.
The production version imbibes most of the fluidic design language and looks pretty similar to the Santa Fe SUV but with a bit more boxiness in the overall shape. The inside of the ix25 is once again very similar to that of the Santa Fe but with different colours schemes and a toned down feature list, however, it still looks quite luxurious.
The engine options for the Chinese market in the beginning will be a 2.0-litre four pot mill that produces around 160bhp and will be mated either to a six-speed manual or a six-speed AT. The 1.6-litre four-pot motor from the Verna is expected to find its way into a lower spec ix25 sometime next year.
At present, the ix25 will be built in China for the local market only but we expect that India and some European markets will get the car in late 2015 and with option of a diesel engine which is expected to be the 1.6-litre mill from the Verna.
