Like in most global markets, the demand for the Range Rover Evoque is quite high in China. The premium mid-size SUV, in fact, enjoys the highest demand among Chinese buyers compared to the rest of the Land Rover line-up.
Looking to cater to this major chunk of the global car industry, Land Rover has launched the China-built Range Rover Evoque with prices ranging between 448.000 yuan (Rs 44.14 lakh) and 582.800 yuan (Rs 57.35 lakh).
According to Chinese news sources, the Evoque is being manufactured in China by the Chery-JLR (Jaguar Land Rover) joint venture with the 2-litre, turbo four cylinder engine as the prime power unit. The 237bhp unit is mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. Besides this, the Chery-JLR alliance is reportedly working on using a Chery-made 2-litre turbo engine with around 196hp of power.
The Evoque with the locally designed engine is expected to arrive in the second half of 2015 and act as an affordable alternative to the standard version.
Now that the Evoque is being manufactured at Land Rover’s new facility in Changshu in Jiangsu Province, imports of this vehicle are expected to end soon. The facility, however, will only make the five-door version as the three-door version continues to be imported to China.
