The third generation of the Chevrolet Sail has made its debut at the Guangzhou motor show in China. The new car is expected to be launched this year in China, while the same version might also be introduced in the Indian market next year.
A lot different from the current model, this next-gen Sail gets a comprehensive makeover. The redesigned vehicle is a lot meatier yet sharper than the car that is sold now. The fascia gets a new larger dual-port grille flanked by sweptback head-lamps. Apart from these cosmetic changes, the car is now bigger with an increment of 51mm in length, 45mm in width and 35mm in wheelbase. This increase in dimensions has definitely resulted in a better looking car and also helped increase the cabin space. The boot space has also increased to 366 litres.
The new Sail will be offered with a 1.5-litre DVVT and 1.3-litre VVT engine in China. However, for the Indian market we can expect the same 1.3-litre Fiat sourced MultiJet engine and a 1.2-litre petrol motor from the current version.
Chevrolet recently launched the mildly facelifted Sail sedan and hatchback during Diwali in India. Let us hope the company launches the next-generation variant for the Indian market in early 2015 when it will again go up against the Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and the Toyota Etios.
