Chevrolet has taken the wraps off its Beat based compact sedan at the 2016 Auto Expo. It has called it the Essentia and will launch the car in 2017 for the Indian market. The Essentia will be produced at GMs plant in Gujarat and will also be exported from there.
The Essentia shares a common face with the Beat but has much more lowered down side profile as compared to the hatchback. While the Beat has been little bit of a wild design, this compact sedan at the rear plays it safe and has a tail lamp design that is common in the segment.
The cabin is standard Chevrolet and shares many common elements with the hatchback including the unique instrument cluster and AC controls. It comes fitted with a touchscreen system on this top-spec LTZ variant but we believe that in lower spec variants a 2-DIN system will be offered. There appears to be a decent amount space within while the boot looks to be around 300 litres.
We believe that the Essentia will be offered with the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.0-litre diesel mill currently powering the Beat hatchback. A five-speed manual is expected to be offered as standard across both models.
When launched, the Essentia, will compete with the likes of the Tata Kite 5 compact sedan.
