The Chevrolet Trailblazer which was launched here in October has been sold out in the Indian market till March 2016. The company had imported 150 units as the initial batch and will bring in the next lot, which is expected to be much larger, as 2016 model year vehicles. This may seem like a significant success for the SUV but we should remember that the Toyota Fortuner, its main rival, retails over 1000 units a month.
Our sources reveal that the current demand for the Trailblazer has been limited to urban areas as the vehicle is mostly available only in Tier-1 cities and a few Tier-2 cities. It is believed that the clientele group for the car includes politicians, realtors, businessman and someone basically looking for something that will stand out in a crowd.
The Chevrolet Trailblazer is the latest SUV from the American automaker. It is a large seven-seater vehicle slotting in the D+ segment. The Chevrolet design hallmarks are visible in the form of the bowtie logo, flared wheel arches and massive road presence. The SUV is powered by a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine producing 200bhp and a massive 500Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed AT.
The company currently has no plans to bring the SUV in its AWD guise anytime soon. It rivals the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport in the D+ segment.
