General Motors India (GM) has announced that it will introduce the Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV this year and also bring in the Spin multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) next year. The company has already imported both the vehicles in India for testing.
The Trailblazer is a full-fledged SUV from General Motors and is based on a pick-up truck - Colorado. Two units of the SUV have been brought to our country for research and development. The vehicle is powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine that comes mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. Another variant will be launched that will feature a five-speed manual transmission. It will compete with the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero and the upcoming new-gen Ford Endeavour.
GM at present sells only the Chevrolet Enjoy in the entry-level MPV segment in India. Another vehicle that will be added in 2016 to this fast growing multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) segment will be the Spin. It will go up against the Honda Mobilio, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the upcoming Renault Lodgy.
In 2015, the company plans to export around 19,000 cars to nearly 40 countries and this export activity will be centered around Mexico and Chile. The company began exporting cars in September 2014. It exported 984 vehicles last year.
GM India plans to expand its Indian portfolio and will bring both the vehicles with this strategy in mind. They strive to offer high quality, exciting and competitive products for their customers. With the Spin MPV, we will see a new, more up-market product than the Enjoy in the MPV segment of cars in our country.
Arvind Saxena, president and managing director, General Motors India, said, "GM India’s focus is on significantly expanding its presence in the Indian market by enriching its products, quality and the entire purchasing experience. Our dealers are a big part of ensuring that Chevrolet builds customers for life."
