Test mules of the Chevrolet Trailblazer and Spin were recently spotted testing in Rajasthan. These are the same test vehicles that General Motors India (GM) had imported for research and development.
The cars on test were in a disguised avatar and sported temporary registration plates. The camouflage didn’t reveal the changes for the Indian market, however, from what we know, the Trailblazer will retain most of the components of the SUV available globally. It is a full-fledged SUV from General Motors and is based on a pick-up truck - Colorado. The SUV is powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox and another five-speed manual transmission variant is also expected to be brought to India.
The other vehicle that was spied on test was the Spin MPV. It is a new, more upmarket product than the Chevrolet Enjoy. GM, at present, sells only the Enjoy in the entry-level MPV segment in India and the Spin will be added to this fast growing multi-purpose vehicle segment in 2016.
Both the vehicles are expected to be equipped with Chevrolet's latest-generation MyLink infotainment system. This system provides smart phone connectivity, streaming audio and video and users can access personal playlists and make hands-free calls.
The company had earlier announced that they will launch the Trailblazer SUV along with their Spin MPV for the Indian market. We can expect both these vehicles to be introduced to the Indian market this year. The Trailblazer will go up against the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero and the upcoming new-gen Ford Endeavour; while the Spin will compete with the Honda Mobilio, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the upcoming Renault Lodgy.
