Chevrolet has confirmed that the new Sail U-VA hatchback will be launched on 2 November. The Sail hatchback has been jointly developed by GM and its Chinese partner SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation) along with the Sail sedan and will replace the aging Aveo sedan and U-VA twins.
Currently the highest selling model in the Chinese market, the Sail is powered by a 1.3-litre multijet diesel engine which produces 78bhp and 250Nm of torque. The engine has been jointly developed in collaboration with Fiat and has an ARAI efficiency of 22.1kmpl. The petrol variant gets a 1.2-litre four-cylinder unit that produces 86bhp and has an efficiency of 18.2kmpl.
The Sail U-VA will compete with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Volkswagen Polo and the Hyundai i20. The Sail is the first in a line of three products that GM and SAIC will launch in the Indian market. It will be followed by the Sail sedan and the seven-seater Enjoy MPV which is expected to be launched sometime next year. The prices of the Chevy Sail U-VA are expected to start at around Rs 4.5 lakh and Rs 5.5 lakh for the petrol and diesel base models respectively.
