Chevrolet India will launch the Tavera with an upgraded BSIV engine soon. After stopping production of the Enjoy, the only vehicle made at the General Motors’ plant in Gujarat is the Tavera. The MUV will soon get an upgrade, which will allow the car to run till the new regulations are applicable in 2019.
Chevrolet had plans to shut down the Gujarat plant, however, it will now continue to function for the production of the Tavera. The MUV at the moment is available only with a BSIII engine, however our sources confirm that it will get a BSIV upgrade, which would then allow Chevy to continue selling it post April 2017. The BSIII will be phased out from India next April and all the passenger cars that currently have only BSIII engines will either have to be phased out or upgrade to BSIV.
The Tavera is the best-selling car in the Chevrolet lineup despite being available in the limited markets due to BSIII restrictions. With the engine upgrade, the MUV will be available in all the metro cities, which should further push its sales. The Tavera with the upgrade can then be on sale till 2019, when the new safety regulations will become applicable.
