With just about week to go for the New York Auto Show (NYAS), automakers around the world are preparing to showcase their prowess to one of the world’s biggest car markets. At such a time, Chevrolet has managed to grab our attention by announcing the introduction of a new variant of the Corvette at the event on April 15.
The seventh generation Z06 Corvette was unveiled recently at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show and was even displayed at our very own Delhi Auto Expo. Harlan Charles, Corvette Product Manager, had revealed during the unveiling at Detroit that they were considering a hardcore Z06X version to be unveiled later in the year but it might be too soon to expect it at the NYAS. Earlier reports had hinted at a new low-cost entry-level ‘Corvette Coupe’ with a fixed roof, though the car might just be a special edition or a limited-edition package, like the Corvette Black Widow.
Besides a new Corvette, Chevrolet also has plans for uncovering two ‘important new additions’ at the NYAS.Speculations vary from the 2015 Spark hatchback to the production trim of Camaro Z/28. The 2015 Cruze is also a candidate and has been spotted testing in China many times. But being a China-specific car, the model might be uncovered later at the Beijing Auto Show later this month. The Trax compact crossover is already on sale in Canada and might make its American debut at the NYAS.
Being one of the biggest auto events on the American soil, the NYAS attracts a lot of attention with car makers churning out new cars and facelifts. With the 2015 Corvette set to go on sale next month, Chevrolet will rely on the new Corvette to keep the audience interested. Details are scant right now though we expect more to be revealed as April 15 draws closer.
