Chevrolet is all set to sell its mini SUV called Trax in the Chinese market. The brand has reportedly started producing the vehicle which will make its official debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April. To be launched soon after its debut, the car will be manufactured under the Shanghai-GM joint venture in China.
The China-made model will be badged ‘TRAX chuangku’ and will be priced at around 130.000 yuan (Rs 13.06 lakh) for the base-spec variant. Interestingly, the Trax is already on sale in the Chinese market in the form of the Buick Encore. The latter, however, sports a different front-end design and a slightly different interior.
More on the Buick Encore; the car starts at 149.900 yuan (Rs 15.06 lakh) which is significantly more than the upcoming Trax. Under the hood sits a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 140bhp and 200Nm of torque. The four cylinder unit is offered with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.
The China-made Chevrolet Trax is expected to be powered by the same 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine. Additionally, there could be a naturally aspirated 1.6-litre unit positioned below the turbo petrol engine.
