The upcoming Chevrolet Spin MPV (multi-purpose utility vehicle) was spotted testing in a camouflaged avatar on the Jaipur-Delhi highway recently. The car seems to be in the final stages of testing and will be launched in India in early 2016.
The new Spin is a more upmarket product than the Chevrolet Enjoy, which didn't do well in terms of sales in our country. The Spin MPV is expected to change this as it goes up against the few MPV models in India. This MPV is expected to feature the latest equipment similar to Chevrolet's recently launched Trailblazer SUV. It will get the latest-generation MyLink infotainment system, which provides smart phone connectivity, enabling hands-free calls, streaming audio and video with access to personal playlists.
The Chevrolet Spin is powered by a 1.3-litre four-cylinder diesel mill that churns out 74bhp of power at 4,000rpm and a maximum torque of 190Nm at 1,750rpm. This unit comes mated to a five-speed gearbox that sends power to the front wheels.
General Motors, at present, sells only the Enjoy in the entry-level MPV segment in India and the Spin will be added to this fast growing multi-purpose vehicle segment in the Rs 8 lakh and Rs 10 lakh bracket. It will surely liven up things in the MPV segment that includes the Renault Lodgy, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Honda Mobilio.
