General Motors India has teased the new upcoming hatchback, the Sail U-VA, on their website. The all-new Chevrolet Aveo U-VA replacement will be launched in next few days, before Diwali. The Sail U-VA will be available in both petrol and diesel guise and will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Swift, VW Polo, Hyundai i20 and others in the premium-hatchback segment.
The Chevrolet Sail U-VA has been jointly developed by GM and its Chinese partner SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation). It is the one of the highest selling models in the Chinese market and has been localized and tweaked for India. In lines with the demand SAICs local market, the Sail U-VA has ample space inside and with beige interiors, it looks even more spacious. It is powered by the 1.3-litre multijet engine, which was jointly developed by Fiat and GM. The power ratings though are slightly different when compared to the Swift, Indica Vista and the Punto at 78bhp and 250Nm. The company claims ARAI efficiency of 22.1kpl – on par with most of its competitors. The petrol mill is the 1.2-litre four-cylinder 86bhp unit with efficiency figures of 18.2kpl.
The Sail U-VA will be the first of three new products that will be launched in India under GM-SAIC partnership. It will be followed by launch of the Sail sedan to replace the aging Aveo sedan; the company will also launch a new seven-seater MPV called, the Enjoy, early next year.
The prices of the Chevy Sail U-VA are expected to start at around Rs 4.5 lakh and Rs 5.5 lakh for the petrol and diesel base models respectively.
