General Motors India might launch the facelifted Chevrolet Sail sedan and hatchback on September 24. This has been a good year for car manufacturers in India in terms of sales and in order to capitalise the start of this festive season, Chevrolet will also bring in some updates to their existing vehicles in form of facelifts.
The updated cars won’t be similar to the ones launched in China recently. The upgrades on the refreshed cars might include new headlights, new rear lights, and some changes at the bumpers. The fog lamps might get chrome surrounds and the car will get a chrome strip at the back. Our friends at PowerDrift had spotted the Sail sedan testing components for a facelift, and it seems like the cosmetic changes are most likely to be minimal.
However, the major updates the company might bring in are to the interior. The steering wheel will come in black colour with the dashboard finished in dual tone black and beige. The air-conditioning vents and the gear-lever might get accentuated in chrome and the company might bring in better materials for the cabin.
There will be no changes to the mechanicals and the engine specifications will remain the same as the current model. This means the 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 86bhp of power and 113Nm of torque or the 1.3-litre diesel mill churning 78bhp of power and 205Nm of torque will continue to power the Sail sedan and U-VA hatchback. The engine will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
GM launched the Chevrolet Sail sedan for the Indian market at the start of 2013. It was never expected that the manufacturer will launch a facelift so soon. The current Sail sedan is neither a very good looking car nor does it look bad, it’s just not as much appealing as its competition. It seems the company wants to address this issue and is planning to introduce this facelifted vehicle by the end of this month. It will go up against the Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent and the Tata Zest.
