At the 2016 Auto Expo event, Chevrolet unveiled its compact sedan, the Essentia. The vehicle which caught the attention of many at the event, is expected to be launched by end of first quarter next year. The design element has been taken care by General Motors’ Korea Design Studio. Post launch, the new model will compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Volkswagen Ameo, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and Tata’s Zest and the upcoming Kite 5 compact sedan. The Essentia compact sedan from Chevrolet will be available in petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol version will be powered by a 1.2-litre engine that puts out 77bhp of power and 107Nm of torque, while the diesel version will be powered by a 1.0-litre engine which puts out around 57bhp of power and 142Nm of torque. Both the engines will come mated to five-speed manual transmission. Thought there are no immediate plans for automatic options for now, it might be offered at a later date.As for the interior, as seen at the Auto Expo event, the vehicle gets an unconventional dashboard board and door panels which feature shade of white and light brown. The top-spec version might offer touchscreen music console and light brown leather upholstery. The vehicle also gets digital tachometer and speedometer. The vehicle also offers a decent amount of boot space and cabin space for five-occupants to be seated comfortably. Along with the Essentia, Chevrolet is also planning on introducing the new Beat hatchback in the country next year. The not-so-impressive sales numbers is expected to witness a decent growth with the introduction of new models next year. As for pricing aspect, we believe that the Essentia will be competitively priced between Rs 5 - 7 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi). Additional details about the vehicle will be known in the coming days.
