Chevrolet has launched a limited edition of the Cruze in China to celebrate its third successive title in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). While the WTCC is not very well known with the global audiences it is still a hugely demanding sport and has some of the best names in the business participating every year.
The WTCC Cruze is based on the regular car (manufactured and sold by Shanghai GM) and all of the changes are only cosmetic. This special edition gets a body kit, side skirts, and special stickers signifying the WTCC milestone, modified rear bumper and a rear spoiler.
The rest of the car, both inside and underneath, are exactly the same as the base version. The China spec Cruze is offered with two sets of petrol engines; a 1.6-litre mill producing 115bhp and 150Nm of torque and a 1.8-litre unit producing 145bhp and 177Nm of torque.
While the car celebrates the American automakers achievements in the sport, it is also likely that GM has created this model as an end of the year special edition to clear out remaining 2012 stocks as well as boost end of the year volumes.
