Chevrolet has introduced a base version of the Sail hatchback for Rs 5.29 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and has updated the prices on its official website. Although, GM has not official confirmed any details of the version as yet, it is expected to be similar to the base petrol variant in terms of features lists.
The base petrol variant has bare essential features. It has a manually-operated air-conditioner, fabric seats, tilt adjustable steering wheel, remote boot opener, front power windows and electrically adjustable OVRMs. On the outside, the car gets steel wheels and body coloured bumpers. These are expected to be standard of the diesel version as well.
The engine of the Sail U-VA diesel base is the 1.3-litre mill producing 78bhp and 205Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. The ARAI certified fuel efficiency has been pegged at 22.1kmpl, however in real world conditions; this is expected to drop by about two kmpl.
The Sail U-VA sales have dropped drastically within few months of the launch. The new variant should help them better their sales, considering the fact that it is powered by a very similar engine that is used in the Swift and also has better leg-room.
