Earlier this year, General Motors had announced that it will bring the Spin multi-purpose utility vehicle (MPV) to India. And today, the company has officially unveiled the Spin MPV in a press conference held in New Delhi.
Once launched, the Spin will sit above Chevrolet’s most affordable MPV, the Enjoy, which didn’t do well in the Indian market. With the Spin, the American manufacturer is trying to capture the growing premium MPV segment by competing with the recently launched Renault Lodgy, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Honda Mobilio.
Cosmetically, the Spin looks much better than the Enjoy. However, the overall design language is not as good as its rivals. The India-spec Spin is powered by a 1.3-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 74bhp at 4,000rpm and maximum torque of 190Nm at 1,750rpm. This engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox that transfers power to the front wheel.
General Motors will start selling the Spin later this year, for a price ranging between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 10 lakh. With the Spin, the company is hopeful of garnering good sales in the ever growing MPV segment.
