We have already shared spy pictures of the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 testing over the past few months. However, this is the first time that our spy photographers have caught the interiors of the prototype.
Although it isn’t very different from a Z06, you will notice lots of carbon fibre used on the dashboard and steering. But the highlight here is the automatic gearbox which is believed to be the 10-speed transmission that’s being co-developed with Ford.
On the exterior front, while the new ZR1 looks taller than the Z06, the tyres look much wider than the 335/25 R20s that come shod on the Z06. Plus, there are lots air intakes and a substantially large bump on the long bonnet. This brings us to the detail which the car maker is yet to reveal about the ZR1 – its engine.
Sources add that Chevrolet has plans for an all-new DOHC LT5 V8 motor for the Corvette in 2018, but there has been no confirmation about it being configured for a FWD set-up. There is also talk about a reworked motor from the Z06 that will produce in excess of 650bhp. Whatever engine is headed the Corvette ZR1’s way, we will have the information in the months to come. So, stay tuned to CarWale.
