The Chevrolet Beat will get the new locally-developed Smartech engine which will be a 1.2-litre common-rail turbocharged engine from the Fiat-GM uniJet (JTD) engine range, albeit minus a cylinder and we reckon the engine will produce about 65bhp.
General Motors' newly inaugurated Talegaon Flexi-Line powertrain plant will first start manufacturing petrol engines followed by the small diesel engine which is the one that will power the Beat. The beauty of the newly opened flexi-engine line is that General Motors can produce a mix-and-match of whatever type of engine they want in the numbers they'd like.
The Beat engine will boast of aluminium cylinder heads and lightweight pistons that will significantly decrease the weight and would further enhance fuel emissions. The car is still doing the test rounds but one can expect a significant increase in the mileage that the car would give. On paper, one cannot expect a better deal and we sure are waiting to get our hands on the car once its out. Stay tuned for more!
