Chevrolet has announced that it will produce the Beat Activ and Essentia compact sedan. Based on the Beat hatchback, these two vehicles were unveiled in concept form at the 2016 Auto Expo and are expected to be launched in 2017.
Chevrolet’s entry into the compact sedan segment will take place with the Essentia. It follows the standard formula of boot-on-hatch and gets the same face and tail lamp design as the hatchback. The cabin is a beige affair with the prototype that was showcased also getting a touchscreen music system. This car will rival the likes of the Tata Kite-5which will launch later this year. The Beat Activ is a crossover based on the standard hatchback but gets a pseudo body kit, roof rails and a slightly modified fascia. Also included in the package are taller wheels with a different design from the standard car. It is however expected to get the same engine and underpinnings from the standard car. The interior too is from the standard car but with a few more colour and customisation options. Rivals include the Toyota Etios Cross, Fiat Avventura and the Volksagen Cross Polo. It will be an uphill task for Chevrolet as both vehicles are entering into highly competitive segments which already have a large list of established players. It will have to play the pricing game to keep both cars competitive.
