Chevrolet has unveiled its Adra compact SUV concept at the 2014 Auto Expo. Based on the Gamma 2 platform (that underpins the Beat hatchback) it gets a standard three box design but with all of Chevrolet’s funkiness that we have been seeing in many of its smaller and newer models.
The Adra’s fascia has a sleek grille with tear drop shaped headlights that flow into the side of the bonnet. The side profile gets flared wheel arches and many creases and aero dynamic lines that seem to give the impression that the vehicle is bigger than it actually is.
The contrast coloured roof has rails and a small spoiler. At the back there seems to be a lot resemblance to the smaller Beat hatchback but thanks to the raised profile, the vehicle looks much bigger.
The Chevrolet Adra is expected to use the same 1.3-litre Multijet engine found in Sail and Enjoy. It produces 85bhp and 114Nm of torque. The Adra’s petrol-powered mill could be the 1.2-litre engine from the Beat with a different tune or an all-new small capacity turbo engine.
Its Sanskrit origin name is the Adra and has been designed by Indian to be sold in the sub-continent. When launched it will compete with the Ford EcoSport and the Brio-based SUV that will be launched by Honda later this year.
