The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has issued a notification for mass emission standards for flex fuels Ethanol E85 and ED95. The notification includes requirements for approval for two, three and four-wheeled vehicles as well as tech specs with regard to reference fuel used in the test cars.
A press release from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways says the Centre is now working to amend the CMVR 1989 to include the use of greener alternate fuels. The ministry has already notified draft rules for mass emission norms and testing standards of vehicles running on bio-CNG which are under finalisation. The standards of small series testing of vehicles running on electric power have already been notified by the Ministry.
In the larger scheme of things, this move by the Centre will ensure that there is cleaner and greener fuel coming into the Indian market. It also means the government is open about a serious commitment to controlling pollution levels in the country.
