The Central Government has directed nine auto firms to share data regarding monthly production, sales as well as exports in a bid to formulate the right policies for the sector.
A report from the LiveMint says that the government is reviewing India’s automotive mission plan 2006-2016 , finalising an auto fuel policy, efficiency norms as well as a recall policy. The report quotes a letter dated May 15, from the department of heavy industries, which says that the lack of correct data becomes a hindrance in developing policy intervention and that it also adversely affects their ability to devise plans in a correct and transparent manner.
The recipients of the letter include companies like Mercedes-Benz India, Daimler Commercial vehicles, Volvo Buses and JCB as well as certain well established Indian automotive houses like ICML, Mahindra Reva, Premier and LML.
The Indian auto industry has been in a slump for the last two years enduring a slow-down of 3.53 per cent in the period 2013-2014. Now with a new government in place which is believed to be looking at pushing manufacturing heavily, all segments and sectors of the industry are hoping for a revival.
