Caterham have launched yet another model in their Series 7 range. Called the Superlight R600, it looks very much like the cars that have preceded it for the last 30 years but that’s where the similarities end. An evolution of the Superlight R500, this car has been designed to, as the company likes to put it, “represent the top echelon of the Caterham racing spectrum in the Superlight R600 Championship from 2013.”
This superlight Caterham will be powered by a 2.0-litre Ford Duratec engine which produces 275bhp and 270Nm of torque and this from a car that weighs less than a 1000kg! All power is sent to the rear wheels via a six speed sequential gearbox.
The R600 is completely track-oriented as it has no headlights, indicators and runs on slick tyres. It can be yours for 44,995 Pound Sterling (Rs 37.82 lakh) and while does that seem like a lot for a car that is not road legal, one must remember it is built just for a single purpose; to be a race track screamer.
