Caterham Cars, makers of one of the most affordable sportscars in the worlds, is now in India under the banner Caterham Cars India. And its first product will be the Classic. Part of the ‘Seven’ range of open top, rear wheel drive sportscars, the Caterham Seven Classic will retail for Rs 28 lakh for the standard version.
It is powered by a 105bhp 1.4-litre petrol engine and has a top speed of just under 180kmph. It also comes with a 5-speed manual and a roll cage as standard. However, a Classic can be upgraded in almost every area, including replacing the stock 1.4-litre engine with a supercharged one with over 300bhp. With all options in place, the price though can shoot up to Rs 90 lakh!
Caterham will also bring in the SP/300.R by the second quarter of next year. The SP/300.R is totally a track focused car and cannot be registered for on-road use, however.
Furthermore, Caterham, which is being introduced in the country by Dabur India, will also focus on grass root racing. It will introduce the Caterham Academy in India next year at the Buddh International Circuit in this regard. The academy will be an all encompassing racing school of sorts where new drivers will be given focused training and good track time before being allowed to enter the race itself. Costing for attending the academy will be revealed closer to the launch of the school.
