CarWale conducted a series of free workshop titled 'My Garage' which were held at Inorbit Mall, Vashi on the weekend of 12 – 13 June 2010 and at Inorbit Mall, Malad the following weekend 19 – 20 June 2010.
Our team of experts, Kartik Ganesh (Editor), Rachna Tyagi (Principal Correspondent) and Rachit Hirani (Correspondent) interacted with car owners at the malls and provided them with tips and tricks that mechanics do not always reveal to car owners along with safety information that people could find useful during emergencies.
All in all, the success of the event brought out several revelations with regards to how people take care of their car. After interacting, observing and informing them about the things to take care of, we arrived at certain conclusions:
1)Â Most of the owners were novices when it came to cars and only thought that they had to take their car for servicing to the service centre.
2)Â They did not take care of the wiper blades and we informed them that it had to be changed once a year ideally.
3)Â We also informed them to check the tyre pressure as it is very important to have the right tyre pressure during monsoon.
4)Â It was suggested that they check all the wires to ensure that they are well insulated areasing of the battery terminals was recommended.
5)Â They were asked to use rubber mats instead of carpet mats as well as a car fragrance to dispel unpleasant odour.
We gave them some pointers on carrying a torch with extra batteries, a dry powder fire extinguisher to put out electrical fires, a medical kit with non-expired medication, a car charger for cell-phones and snacks that would help them if they were caught in an emergency situation.
We managed to interact with over 5000 customers on a one-on-one basis and we, at CarWale, would like to believe that the customers went away enlightened and empowered with a skill or two.
We thank Fiat India Automobiles Limited for the support they extended by lending us the Punto.
