Most of the automotive manufacturers have registered a marginal growth in May, thanks to the recently bumped up interest rates.
This May, Maruti Suzuki's growth was a mere 2% selling 104,073units compared to 102,175units in May 2010. This month about 50 units of the Kiashi were sold. Hyundai Motor India Ltd. also continued to grow steadily with domestic sales at 14.6% for the month of May, 2011.
Commenting on May, 2011 sales, Arvind Saxena, Director - Marketing and Sales, HMIL said, “The market has slowed down considerably after the first quarter of the year because of increasing interest rates and rising fuel prices among other factors. HMIL riding on the success of it’s recently launched Fluidic Verna which has received over 12,000 bookings has maintained its positive growth.”
Some of the manufacturers like Skoda registered a 100% growth this time. Mr. Thomas Kuehl, Board Member, Sales and Marketing, Škoda Auto India said, “We are very happy to announce 100% sales growth for the month of May, 2011. We are complementing our increasing sales with a rapid expansion of our dealership across the country. With a firm commitment towards being leaders in our segment, we are confident of continuing our growth.”
Mercedes-Benz India continued its traction in the Indian luxury car market by clocking 561 units compared to 411units in May 2010. Mr. Debashis Mitra, Director- Marketing & Sales, Mercedes-Benz India commented, “Mercedes-Benz performed extremely well in both in the sedan segment as well as in the SUV segment. Our SUV’s are synonymous with performance, robustness and versatility, and the growing preference for our SUVs each month is a testimony of this fact. We will continue with our robust performance for the rest of 2011 and create new benchmarks.”
