The seventh generation BMW 5 Series was revealed in October this year and is India-bound sometime next year. As we reported earlier that the new 5 Series was imported for homologation and now that very has been spotted on the Indian roads for the first time.
The new generation 5 Series takes cues from the bigger 7 Series which was launched in India earlier this year. Based on the OKL platform, the 5 Series is slightly larger than its predecessor. Underneath the skin, it benefits from a lightweight chassis resulting in shaving off 100kg over the old car and retains the crucial 50:50 weight distribution.
In terms of engines, there will be options of petrol, diesel as well as plug-in hybrid models. In India, we will get the 520d and 530d guise while the petrol line-up is likely to consist of 520i and 530i trims. The new generation 5 Series when launched in India, will rival the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6 and recently launched Jaguar XF and Volvo S90.
Judging by the fact that the car was on the back of a flatbed, instead of being on the road, we believe that it has been brought to the Indian shores as a part of BMW’s global testing procedures or for India-specific testing and homologation.
