We had extensively reported of the upcoming all-new Cadillac SUV being tested on numerous occasions in the past one year. Now, the American carmaker has revealed the new SUV to be the affordable and slightly smaller XT4. Revealed at the 2018 New York International Auto Show, the XT4 sits below the XT5 in Cadillac’s SUV line-up.
Appearance wise, the XT4 seems like scaled down XT5. The overall dimensions of the XT4 are smaller and the weight is down as well compared to its elder sibling. However, the design is all-new. The newcomer gets a black mesh grille up front with a boomerang shape LED day-time running lights. The tail lights are LED which complements the subtle roof spoiler. There are sharp creases all around akin to the regular Cadillac’s these days while the black body cladding hints at the rugged nature of the XT4.
Being the luxury crossover, the cabin gets a leather-wrapped upholstery, wireless phone charging, new steering wheel, and an air ionization system. There is a new rotary controller for the infotainment system stacked on the centre console. Even after being the smallest Cadillac SUV, the cabin space is ample.
Powering the XT4 is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder motor with 237bhp and 350Nm. It comes mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission with either front- or all-wheel drive. Cadillac is bidding high for fuel economy with a disconnecting rear axle of the all-wheel-drive system. Other hardware includes a Continuous Damping Control suspension and an electrohydraulic brake-by-wire system.
The XT4 will hit the roads later this year with orders starting later this month. Cadillac’s 60 per cent sales come from SUV, so introducing an affordable luxury SUV will help the carmaker to reach more prospective customers in the demanding market.
