- New architecture allows faster charging speeds
- Interior changes include a new steering wheel and more
BYD, a Chinese carmaker, has updated the Seal sedan in its home country. With the new update, the all-electric sedan gets support for faster charging, new architecture, exterior enhancements, and interior changes.
Starting with the tech first, the updated BYD Seal is aligned with the new 800V architecture, which is an upgrade over the previous iteration’s 400V system. With this new architecture, which is also called ‘e-Platform 3.0 Evo’, the Seal has attained faster charging speeds. In numbers, the Seal’s battery can now juice up from 10 to 80 per cent in just 25 minutes over the previous architecture’s 37 minutes for the same percentage. On the other hand, the international-spec Seal is equipped with two battery pack options – a 61.44kWh and an 80.64kWh unit, with a claimed driving range of up to 700km on a single charging cycle.
In terms of design, the new BYD Seal gets a handful of changes, including a new exterior paint, redesigned alloy wheels, and a contrasting BYD logo on the tailgate. However, the most significant update is in the tech department, where the car now gets a LiDAR sensor mounted on the roof for improved ADAS capabilities.
Coming to the interior, the Seal sedan has received a few notable updates, including a new four-spoke steering wheel, redesigned AC vents, and a slightly tweaked dashboard layout. Now, the BYD Seal was launched in the country in March 2024, so we expect this new version to only come to India by 2025.
