Buick’s beautiful Avista concept coupe was revealed just before the Detroit Auto Show 2016. Buick has a thing about making brilliant looking cars and you’d know this if you have set eyes on the Wildcat and Riviera.
The Avista is a 2+2 grand tourer that runs a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 motor belting out 400bhp through the rear wheels. It has an eight-speed automatic transmission and comes equipped with GM's excellent Magnetic Ride Control. "The Avista embodies the dynamic soul of Buick," said Duncan Aldred, vice president of global Buick sales, service and marketing. It is a modern expression of the brand's heritage of sophisticated performance, communicated with beautiful elegance."
The front end is predominantly covered by a huge grille with Buick's colourful badge taking the centre-stage. It's flanked by the edgy headlamps and this will be the design trend for future Buicks to come. The Avista rolls on 20-inch wheels and shares the same wheelbase as the Chevrolet Camaro (2811mm). Tracks measure 1600mm in the front and 1597mm in the rear, and this makes for an extremely sporty stance.
Being a Buick, comfort will be of top priority and interiors feature noise insulation, air purification and even aromatherapy. Drivers get a view of the widescreen digital display that uses a future version of Buick's IntelliLink. Interiors are done up in grey leather punctuated with carbon-fibre and aluminium accents.
"There is elegant simplicity in the Avista's surfaces, which speak to the purity of the car's performance, and a timeless beauty that's a hallmark of Buick design," said Bryan Nesbitt, executive director Global Buick Design.
