In the world of performance vehicles there are sports cars, super cars, hyper cars and then there is the Bugatti Veyron, which seems to be in different realm altogether. The fact that it has set a whole number of benchmarks for performance vehicles is not enough for parent company Volkswagen and we might soon see a new version with power of another sports car stuffed into it.
When the 1000bhp ‘base’ Veyron’s speed record was eclipsed, the French automaker put the car on a crash diet and brought us the 1200bhp Veyron Super Sport. In the hands of Top Gear UK’s James May and its own test driver Pierre-Henri Raphanel, it broke the record again by achieving a top speed of 431kmph.
However, even this does not seem to be enough for the company. To ensure that they sit in the record books permanently, Bugatti is now working on the Super Veyron. The new French land rocket will be powered by a W16 8.0 or 9.6-litre engine churning out … (we are short of adjectives here) 1600bhp!!! This is expected to push the car to a surreal top speed of 463 kmph! Realistically though, this number maybe a whole lot lesser, but reports suggest that 0-100 time could come down to around 1.8 seconds, which is actually Formula 1 car territory.
The key to this kind of math is once again a massive weight loss programme of around 250kgs from the already lightened Veyron Super Sport. We can also expect a refreshed front and rear end along with revised active aerodynamics. Keeping in line with the astronomical numbers, the Super Veyron is expected to cost 1.9 million Pound Sterling (Rs 16.48 crore) and not to mention like almost every unit sold now, even this will be a limited edition model
