Bugatti has launched the fifth edition of its Legends series of cars. Comprising six editions of three models, this pays tribute to the Type 18 ‘Black Bess’ which the German-owned French automaker says was the first ever street legal sports car.
On the outside, the Black Bess Edition has been painted in a black colour with gold accents that run from the base of the headlamps to the edge of the bonnet. If the Bugatti Veyron by itself is not exclusive enough then the automaker in this special edition has trimmed out the distinctive horseshoe grille, hubs of the wheels and Bugatti logo in 24-carat gold. Other speciality touches also include the tank and oil caps being finished in gold paint and having the words Black Bess engraved on them.
Inside, Bugatti has fitted the Black Bess Edition with beige coloured leather on the seats, cigar brown on the dashboard and crimson red for the steering wheel to pay homage to the Black Bess. The doors also features mural of the original Black Bess and a Morane Saulnier Type H aircraft owned by legendary aviator Roland Garros, one of the owners of the Black Bess.
The original car had a 5.0-litre four-cylinder engine that produced 98bhp. It was mated to a five-speed manual and had a top speed of 161kmph. The Bugatti Veyron on the other hand gets its magical power from an 8.0-litre W16 engine that produces 1200bhp and 1500Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch transmission and a four-wheel drive system.
The French automaker is looking to complete its inventory of the Veyron and end sales of the model. It is believed that they still have 40 models to sell and by the looks of it, this seems quite an effective way to increase sales.
