Mercedes-Benz India has launched the BS-VI compliant E-Class in India. Available with one petrol and one diesel engine across four trims, the LWB E-Class BS-VI is priced from Rs 57.50 lakhs (ex-showroom). Mercedes-Benz has introduced the new E-Class in two new trim levels: Expression and Exclusive.
The new petrol engine is the M264 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit in the 200 trim which produces 194bhp at 5800rpm and 300Nm from 1600rpm. The diesel, on the other hand, is the OM654 2.0-litre inline-four with an output of 191bhp and 400Nm. Both the engines come mated to the 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox. The former can do the 0-100kmph sprint in 8.0 seconds with a top speed of 236kmph while the latter is capable of the same sprint in 7.3 seconds and has a top speed of 240kmph.
In terms of features, the BS-VI E-Class also gets a host of updates in terms of features. The plusher seats – which were previously available only in the top-spec 350d guise – are now offered as standard. The seats are adorned with vertical stitching while the upholstery is finished in Artico. Additionally, high-quality velour floor mats add to the luxury quotient on the E-Class. The cabin also gets the 12.3-inch widescreen instrument cluster with three different display styles. What’s more, the Exclusive variant gets a 13-speaker, 590 watts Burmester sound system, wireless phone charger, and rear touchscreen control panel. The standard features on the E-Class include electronic stability program (ESP), LED headlamps, active parking assist, adaptive brake lights, and seven airbags to name a few.
Martin Schwenk, MD and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, commenting on the launch of the new BS-VI E-Class, said, “Mercedes-Benz India rolled-out India’s first ‘Made in India, for India’ BS-VI vehicle in January 2018. Since then, we have been steadily transitioning our portfolio into BS-VI and the introduction of the BS-VI E-Class reiterates our commitment towards the new emission norms from April 2020. The new BS-VI E-Class offers a very intriguing value proposition for the customer with a competitive total cost of ownership that starts at just Rs 67,800. We are very confident that the new long wheelbase BS-VI E-Class will continue its success story and remain a growth driver for Mercedes-Benz in India.”
