The Central Government has issued a circular stating that the entire country will come under the purview of the BS4 emission norms from April 1, 2017. The emission standard was put into force across 11 cities in April 2010 with a second phase of implementation in October last year and the third phase in April this year.
Now, in this fourth phase of implementation, a majority of Tier-3 cities have been targeted and the full implementation will take place by October 1.
Goa, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Odisha and the Union Territories of Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Andaman and Nicobar Islands will undergo an implementation of BS4 norms by April 1, 2016. The districts of Mumbai, Thane and Pune and districts of Surat, Valsad, Dangs and Tapi are also included in this phase.
With the passing of each deadline, only BS4 compliant vehicles will be allowed to register and ply on the public roads of those locations.
