BorgWarner Inc, a US-based auto component and systems manufacturing company, opened its Indian facility at the SIPCOT Industrial Park at Sriperumbudur in Chennai.
The company will manufacture for 300,000 assemblies a year and then foray into the production of Viscous Fan Drives, fans and a few other thermal management items from the company’s main stable. The cost of the facility is expected to be around Rs 30crore.
Speaking about the new facility, V D Umashankar, managing director, BorgWarner Cooling Systems India (P) Limited, said, "The company started India operations in 2001 as a sales office that imported products which helped in thermal management of engines used in SUVs and heavy vehicles. Subsequently, the company set up an interim manufacturing facility at Ayanambakkam, Chennai, as business expanded and the time had come for the world class facility at Sriperumbudur, the auto hub of India."
