- Volvo XC40 is the smallest Volvo SUV in India
- Might be offered in one fully loaded trim like the XC60
- XC40 will be the third SUV along with XC60 and XC90
Volvo will launch their compact luxury SUV, the XC40, in India on July 4 but the bookings for the SUV have already begun. For a deposit of Rs 5 lakh, the interested buyers can book the XC40, 200 units of which have been allotted in the first lot for India. we expect Volvo to continue with their competitive pricing strategy and peg the XC40 between Rs 40 lakhs to Rs 45 lakhs for the fully loaded trim.
The Volvo XC40 is an all-new SUV that made its global debut last year and makes its way to the Indian shores. With the positive trend shown by the sales of the new-generation Volvos that started with the XC90, followed by the S90, the V90 Cross Country and the XC60, Volvo is expecting to have the premium SUV pre-booked by the launch date.
Built on the new electric-ready platform, the XC40 comes with the D4 diesel engine that develops 190bhp of power and comes mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. It gets the Haldex all-wheel drive system with a front-wheel drive bias. The XC40 toes the Volvo design language with the robust looking hammer-headlamps and the vertically slatted rectangular grille upfront.Â
Unlike the compact luxury SUVs which generally tend to have crossover styling, the boxy XC40 has pure SUV looks which might work in its favour. On the inside, we expect Volvo to launch the XC40 in the top-spec R-Design trim with all the bells and whistles including a panoramic sunroof. The lower trims like Inscription, Excellence and Momentum might be launched later along with the introduction of a petrol engine in due course of time.
