Sources have revealed that BMW is developing a fully electric prototype i8 that will be introduced as the second-generation of this car. What’s even more exciting is that the car is slated to carry a huge improvement in power delivery.
BMW is expected to empower the next gen i8 with three electric motors that will be mated to a battery which can squeeze 482km on a single charge. What needs your attention though, is that each of these prototype motors unleash 268bhp; now that’s a combined output in excess of 800bhp. That’s a lot of power for the second generation, especially when you consider that the 2017 facelift is due to carry a speculated 420bhp.
Reports also seem to highlight the fact that two of the electric motors may find their way onto the rear axle, while, the third one could probably end up in the front, making it theoretically an all-wheel drive. There are rumours that the car could also be equipped with rear axle steering. While the next gen i8 should hit markets post 2020, expect this electric power surprise to hit our Indian market too, shortly after the international debut.
