Love it or loathe it, BMW hasn’t given up on its controversial Gran Turismo design theme just yet as there could also be a second-generation model of the original 5 Series GT launched back in 2009.
According to Auto Motor und Sport, the 5 Series has managed to sell in good numbers in markets like the US and China. The sales reportedly have been good enough for BMW to take a new generation model into consideration.
If BMW ever decides to make the second-generation model, the vehicle is likely to be based on the 2017 5 Series which is said to rely heavily on a lightweight construction, just like the latest-generation 7 Series.
