• A few images of the upcoming new-gen Z4 have surfaced online.
• The Roadster remains true to the Concept showcased last year.
• Will officially break cover at the Pebble Beach.
BMW has been readying the new-gen Z4 Roadster for quite some time now. We have seen the development prototype on many occasions being tested, on the icy streets of Lapland to pushing itself on the gruesome Nurburgring. Now, ahead of the official reveal, a few images of the Z4 Roadster have surfaced online.
The Z4 has retained its gorgeous looks from the Concept car showcased last year at the Concours d’Elegance at the Pebble Beach. The variant leaked online is the top-spec M40i. It will be powered by a 3.0-litre straight-six turbocharged motor which also does duty in the M2 40i. It is expected to produce around 350bhp of power and 350Nm torque which is sent to the rear wheels only via a ZF derived eight-speed unit.
The headlights are slightly rounded compared to the concept’s sharp lines. They flank the new grille while the bumpers have aggressive air intakes. The rollover hoops are present behind the seats while the sleek taillights complete the looks at the rear.
The interior images preview a digital instrument console similar to the one in the flashing 8 Series. The centre console has a wireless charging station along with circular iDrive dial. The entire cabin is rigged out in typical BMW fashion.
BMW has developed the Z4 alongside Toyota’s resurrected Supra. Both the carmakers have shared the expertise in the development of these two driver-focused cars. The Supra coupe will be revealed only after the Z4 Roadster.
The Z4 is expected to show up at the Pebble Beach Concourse next week. It will surely come to India as well, but that will happen only next year. More details of the Roadster will be revealed in coming days.
