BMW has officially teased the new generation Z4 Concept ahead of its global unveiling tomorrow. The Z4 Concept will mark its debut at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance which opens its gates on 17 August.
In a classic BMW-approach to concept cars, as seen on the 8 Series Concept, the upcoming Z4 Concept will also sport a large, accentuating kidney grille. The teaser image here also shows smooth flowing lines with flared wheel arches that overlap large alloy wheels. The mirrors are slender and futuristic since they are in concept guise.
BMW is developing the new generation Z4 alongside the Toyota Supra. While the Supra will only be a coupe, the Z4 will remain a roadster. However, unlike the previous generation Z4, which had a folding hard-top, the new generation Z4 will be a soft-top roadster. The third generation Z4 is built ground-up and will employ the BMW’s carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) for lightweight construction.
Under the hood, there will be a range of turbocharged four and six cylinder engines. The rear-wheel drive system will be retained while the transmission option will be an eight-speed automatic. A hybrid and a performance variant are also on the cards, but those will arrive later in the roadster’s life cycle.
The new Z4 Concept will preview the production spec roadster, which is expected to roll out only next year. Stay tuned to CarWale for more details on the new Z4 Concept as it makes its global premiere tomorrow.
