BMW has confirmed the development of the X7 SUV in a presentation at its 2016 annual press conference. The single picture from the presentation reveals the SUV as the German automaker’s new flagship utility vehicle which will be positioned above the X6. Under development since 2013, the X7 is believed to have been jointly developed by BMW and its ultra-luxury brand Rolls-Royce. It is expected to be underpinned by the same RWD platform used in the latest generation 7 Series. There are hardly any details available about the vehicle at present but we be can sure of a few things. It is expected to be offered in seven-seat and five-seat configurations. The engine lineup is expected to be lifted directly from the 7 Series but will be tuned differently.
There will also be an M version which is expected to get a large twin-turbo petrol motor and rear-biased XDrive system. It is way too early to make any speculations about market positioning and rivals but we can say this much that this car is certain to arrive in India just a short while after it is launched.
